|
Our PTG chapter is comprised of piano tuners/technicians from northern West Virginia, southeastern Ohio, southwestern and central western Pennsylvania. From September to June, guild meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, at 7:15 pm (occasionally at 7:00pm), featuring a technical presentation by one of the members or a guest speaker. |
On most occasions, an Associates Session is held at 6:30pm. After the 7:15pm technical seminar (duration between 1 & 1.25 hrs), the chapter President leads a business conference. Some meetings are held at Gerrero Organ Sales Outlet (located in Robinson Twp. off of Campbells Run Rd. in Parkway West Industrial Park: Building 5). Anyone interested in the field of piano technology is welcome to attend. |

The Piano
Technicians Guild is an organization of piano technicians which promotes high quality standards in piano tuning and maintenance.
The Pittsburgh Chapter is presently comprised of 40 members; 24 of
which are Registered Piano Technicians, 2 are Chapter Sustaining members (retired professionals),
and 14 are Associates.
A
Registered Piano Technician (RPT) has passed a series of
rigorous examinations on the maintenance, repair, and tuning of pianos.
An Associate is a member who has not passed the RPT examinations. Associates may be studying piano technology and working toward RPT status, or may be piano retailers, rebuilders, refinishers or other specialists. |

The 'Katrina' Piano Project (2007-8) |
|
Back in May 2006, Peter Stumpf came up with the idea of obtaining some donated (but in relatively good shape) pianos of all sizes and prepare them to be hauled to the Gulf Coast region, where an estimated 14,000 pianos were water-damaged and unusable. In May 2007, Frank Balistreri volunteered to market this mission, and coordinated communication to appraise candidate donations, organize work sessions, and schedule piano moves with Randy Mangus. By March 2008, 25 pianos were successful freighted down south and distributed via UMCOR (United Methodist Core of Relief). Previous chapter projects: click here. |
